about
Written and produced by:
Richard Warren
Originally released as a limited edition, numbered run of 100 cds for Rough Trade shop, London on Record Store Day 2012.
"Where his last album was firmly entrenched in Dark Americana, The Devil In Concordia Parish, despite its Louisiana-based title, evokes a shady swinging London due to a sound and general atmosphere that has echoes of John Barry's Cimbalom-loaded theme to The Ipcress File (and if you've never seen that film, go and watch it immediately, it's fantastic). The track is swaggeringly cinematic through the whole 6-and-a-bit minute duration, Warren's guitar narrating a jaunt around a story that seems to take in gently seedy surroundings that welcome the listener rather than intimidate. Recorded for Record Store Day itself, it remains to be seen if this different view of the underworld is indicative of whatever Richard has in store for us next. Again as above, hopefully it's not too long before we find out."
